ATV Pilot Project
Exploring New Terrain: ATV Pilot Project in effect August 1 to November 15, 2024
The Town of Conception Bay South has announced the launch of an ATV pilot project. This initiative designates routes within the town as ATV-friendly, allowing all-terrain vehicles on specific town roads.
Project Details
Location #1: Seal Cove Road/Garden Road
ATVs can operate along Seal Cove Road and Garden Road, allowing access to the ATV Bypass Staging Area at 336 Seal Cove Road. ATVs permitted along Seal Cove Road (from the intersection of Morgansville Place to the pole line near 487 Seal Cove Road) and Garden Road (from the intersection of Morgans Road to the intersection with Seal Cove Road).
Location #2: Anchorage Road/Chute Place
ATVs permitted along Anchorage Road and Chute Place, providing access to public land. ATVs permitted to travel along Chute Place and Anchorage Road (from the intersection of Minerals Road to the intersection of Chute Place) to access the public pathway at the end of Chute Place.
Rules of Operation
- Designated Routes: ATVs must stay on designated routes as outlined. In accordance with the Off-Road Vehicles Act, roads would be accessible to ATV users within a maximum one-kilometer radius of the designated routes.
- Compliance: Vehicles and drivers must comply with the Off-Road Vehicles Act and Recreational Vehicle Regulations
- including:
- Operating on the shoulder of the highway and yielding to motor vehicle traffic, pedestrians, and cyclists.
- Drivers must be at least 16 years old with a valid driver’s license.
- Liability insurance is required and proof must be readily available.
- The ATV must have the original exhaust system in working order to prevent excessive noise.
- Driver must travel at a maximum speed of 20 kilometers per hour.
- No passengers unless the ATV is designed for them, with both driver and passengers wearing approved helmets.
- No person shall operate an ATV within the Town and upon its highways earlier than 7:00 a.m. or later than one-half hour before sunset on any day.
